The Right Attitude to Dealing
with Anxiety
In today’s society we all have a certain
amount of stress and anxiety that we must learn to deal with.
Much of it can be deemed as necessary anxiety and it does have
its place in our lives. Dealing with anxiety such as this is
part of our daily routine. It might be as simple as worrying
about what to make for dinner or stressing over a promotion at
work. This is normal and most of us can cope quite well with
it.
The question becomes a little more serious
if we allow our levels of anxiety to become severe enough to
have an actual effect on the way we live our lives. In most
people a certain amount of stress is a good thing as it
forces them to act and accomplish the things they need to do
in their lives. It becomes a problem however when it stops
pushing a person to act and instead forces them into
inaction.

Learning how to deal with anxiety can be a
challenge for the person who feels like they are constantly
under stress to perform or are worried about the next time
they might have an anxiety attack. This worry alone can
cause a person to experience a series of anxiety attacks
that can become full blown panic attacks if not brought
under control.
The first step for most people who are
suffering from anxiety issues is to take time to look inside
of themselves and try to understand what it is that is
causing the problem. Sometimes the problem is right in front of
you, other times it may be something that you will really
have to search for. Do not be surprised if the answer does
not come to you right away, often the real issue is buried
deep inside of you and does not want to be
found.
You can try talking to a loved one, a
close friend or start out writing in a diary or personal
journal. Many people find that by writing down their
feelings and thoughts they will eventually find the one
thing that is the root cause of their anxiety.
Once you have found out
what the cause of your anxiety is then you can begin to work
to eliminate it.
If your anxiety is indeed something
that you can take care of by taking action then you need to
sit down and come up with a plan of action that will allow
you to do so. If on the other hand you are dealing
with a “what if” or hypothetical situation, and you are
simply looking at a worst case scenario, then you must learn
to let it go. These hypothetical situations
rarely, if ever, come to fruition and as such you should try
to let go and concentrate only on the things that you can
control in your life.
One of the things that have been found to
cause anxiety is spending too much time focusing on
ourselves. We
tend to think in the "me, myself and I" mode about our lives
and everything around us. It starts out as my life and my
problems and we never seem to shake that thought
process. Instead we need to focus on the bigger
picture and see how much we as a person can affect the life
of others and focus on the positive aspects of the world
around us.
By seeing how our positive attributes can
bring peace and joy to those around us, we can change the
way we see ourselves and the problems we face.
It also allows us to see just
how inconsequential these problems are in the grand scheme
of life and let them go, finally allowing us to live free of
anxiety and stress and lead a more happy and productive
life.
